Watch this SMILING CRITTERS VIDEO (suggested for posting by group member Marcy Braiker). Two pics in the video are courtesy of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (for which I write), and include Ellen, one of the pit bulls forced to fight on former NFL'er Michael Vick's southern estate. Ellen now lives the good life, taking walks, trips to the park and going on sleepovers with caregivers and trainers at Best Friends sanctuary.

Thanks. Susan is doing a great job on this website of informing pet parents.

I'll get the recall list up on some other social media sites too.

Evidently, recalls are happening without them being posted to the public right away.

Sweet story, Jo Anne. Quite a journey to America for the dog. ... Am checking out the latest food recall list. Thanks for posting it.

That little foster of yours looks so sweet. Very sad story about to turn around.

Thanks, Kelly, for joining the group! Best Friends Animal Society (I'm a staff writer for their Web site and magazine) has a volunteer program in Los Angeles. You'll want to join the Network online where you can hook up with other people. Also, Best Friends has a Los Angeles program with a lot of opportunities for volunteer work. Kathryn Heigl and her mother volunteer with us too. Go to this page to see who to contact and what programs are going on there. It's wonderful you want to volunteer! --Cathy

Thanks for inviting me to join the group! Blake (pictured with me) was a rescue dog. I adopted him near Austin, TX about 2 years ago. He's 11 now and going strong! An eternal 4 year old.
I'm new to LA and would like to volunteer with rescue pets in some way. I can't be a foster 'Mom' but am willing to do other things. Any suggestions? I live in Venice now and may live in Woodland Hills soon.

My latest foster girl, a 7-month-old Papillon pup, scheduled to arrive by week's end. She was confiscated by animal control in Oklahoma from the owner for starving her (she lived alone in the back yard). I'm told she's very sweet, but she looks sad in her photo. I would imagine she's skittish, since she's had very little contact with people. I'll keep everybody updated on her progress.
